David MacKenzie (biography)
David MacKenzie was born in Inverness, David Mackenzie began playing the accordion at the age of 12 and was giving his first solo performance in public 3 months later. During a 37 year career to date he has performed solo, in duos, trios & bands in the UK & Europe and has also performed with some of the biggest names in Scottish & Irish music.
Apart from writing the highly successful Buttons & Keys piano accordion tutor books and the Ceilidh Collection for Accordion David is a highly experienced & widely respected accordion teacher with a large number of aspiring students throughout the Highlands and beyond. He has taught piano accordion to championship level for 34 years. During that time his students have been highly successful in the competition arena, consistently being in the top three placings, including The Royal National Mod, NAAFC Festival & the Perth Accordion Championships. He is now able to bring his expertise to a much wider audience with the use of the internet and does distance teaching using Skype.
In 1998 he received a Civic Award for Services to Music in Ross & Cromarty. He was also vice chairman then chairman of Dingwall & District accordion & fiddle club for ten years. When David is not teaching or playing he’s running his music shop in Thurso.
