Highland Laddie (audio)

This pipe tune was originally known though a song which appears in many collections including Johnson’s Museum, Hoggs Jacobite Relics, and Playford’s Dancing Master in 1701 where it appears under the title “Cockle Shells”, an old version of the same air.

It is still a very popular fiddle and bagpipe tune today. From Popular Songs and Melodies of Scotland by W. Farquhar Graham.
